How to Shop at Staples

Staples has some great deals on paper, ink, and school supplies (sometimes other items as well).

The weekly ad is available on the Staples website. The preview for the next week should be available Thursday afternoon.

Unfortunately, Staples does not take manufacturer coupons according to corporate policy, although some stores do accept them. Kristen at Fun Being Frugal contacted Staples and this is the answer she received.

Staples Rewards
You can sign up for the Staples Rewards program online or in the store. If you sign up in the store, you will get your rewards card immediately. You can sing up online here. You will be able to print a temporary card to use immediately while waiting for your permanent card to come.

With the Staples Rewards card, you get 10% back on

  • ink and toner purchases
  • case and ream paper purchases
  • Copy and Print purchases

The rewards will be issued monthly when you earn $10. If you don’t earn $10 in one month, your rewards will carry over to the next month until the end of the calendar quarter. If you do not earn $10 by the end of the quarter, you will lose those rewards.

You can also recycle ink with your rewards card. You get $2 for each empty ink cartridge you recycle, up to 10 per month. You will always be issued rewards for ink that you recycle – there is not minimum amount. Watch for deals like “Spend X amount in ink and get $Y for each ink cartridge recycled”. You could get double or triple the ink recycling rewards that way.

Rewards will be issued within 30 days after the earning period has ended. You can print them out from the Staples Rewards Center.

To redeem your rewards, you can print them and use them in store, online or over the phone. Staples does not mail rewards anymore.

If you use Staples rewards or coupons on items that you can earn rewards on, you will only earn rewards on the amount you spend AFTER rewards and coupons. For example, say there is an item that is $15 and you should receive 100% back in rewards for buying it. If you use a $6 reward on that item, you will only get $9 back in rewards instead of the full $15.

You CAN, however, use coupons and rewards on items with a Staples rebate and get the full rebate back. You can sometimes make these into a Money Maker.

If you have any other questions about Staples Rewards, you can check the Help Center on the Staples Rewards site.

Staples Easy Rebates
Staples also has some items that have rebates. These offers are usually 2 per household. Your rebate form will print after your receipt. You can fill out the form and mail it in, or you can submit the rebate on the Staples Easy Rebates website. You will need the rebate receipt to submit the rebate online. You should receive your rebate in 4-6 weeks (maybe longer during holiday seasons).

I always submit my rebates online and it is very easy.

You have a few options for how you get your reward. The primary choice for rewards over $10 is a Visa prepaid card, but you can also choose a check or a Staples gift card. For rewards under $10, the primary choice is a check but you can also choose to deposit the amount into your Paypal account. Some rebates may have an increased reward amount if you choose to get a Staples gift card.

You will also be able to track your online rebate or mail-in rebate online.

If you have any other questions about Staples Easy Rebates, you can read the FAQ on the Easy Rebates site.

Staples Price-Match Guarantee
Staples will price match a lower price anywhere else on a new identical item. You can show the lower price when you buy the item or within 14 days of your purchase.

Staples does not price match prices on other companies’ web sites, Staples EasyTechSM services, third-party providers’ products and services (custom printing, etc), items on auction sites or at local or special events(grand opening, clearance, etc). They will price match Staples.com and Staples catalog prices in the store unless is it a clearance price.
