Chicago’s Pour House

After Prohibition ended, Chicago’s reputation as a city for gangsters slowly evolved into a reputation for one of the best U.S. cities to grab a beer. Chicago has plenty of great breweries to check out, but only the Pour House in Old Town lets you choose from over 90 beers on tap.
The restaurant also has a terrific menu with fried cheese curd appetizers, Guinness braised short ribs, and a wild mushroom and spring onion tart you have to taste to believe. Plus, the Pour House is located just a few blocks away from Chicago’s famous Second City Theater where you can see the futures best comedians hone their skills on stage.

Grab your 2013 Big 12 basketball tournament tickets and head to Kansas to enjoy some of the world’s best barbecue. Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue in Kansas City, MO is a locals-only spot, so you’ll have to blend in.
This place has such great food that, even in a town known for good barbecue, it gets packed early. Check out the menu online so you know what you want to order before you get to the front of the line (what, you were expecting a host to seat you?) or a hungry local might give you a poke in the ribs.

This isn’t the place to argue about whether Louisville is the North’s southernmost city or the South’s northernmost city. Just settle in at Harvest and experience flavors from both sides of the Mason Dixon Line.
Harvest has gotten national attention for its farm-to-plate approach. At least 80 of the food on your plate comes from within 100 miles of the restaurant. It makes exceptions for things like coffee, chocolate, and a few other must-have ingredients that won’t grow in the region. It’s also one of the only restaurants in the world where you dine underneath pictures of the farmers who grew your food. It’s like the Hard Rock Cafe with better food and an eye for sustainability.

When you’re in St. Louis and you want a great burger, stop by Dave and Tony’s Premium Burger Joint, where you’ll find a huge list of sandwiches and sides. You can build your own burger to get the ingredients you like best or you can also stick with the chef’s favorites. You’ll never go wrong. The restaurant even has a turkey burger and veggie burger for those who don’t want to indulge in a steakburger.
Just take this piece of advice: when ordering a burger, get it on pretzel bread. The other options are good, but the pretzel bread is out of this world.
